Which MOT Class is my vehicle?

Most vehicles will need a Class 4 MOT test. This covers most private cars and vans up to 3000kg. Vehicles over 3000kg will need a Class 7 MOT test, and these need to be performed at a workshop with the appropriate bay. If you’re not sure which class MOT test your vehicle needs, give us a call and we’ll be happy to advise.

What if my vehicle doesn’t pass?

Major or dangerous issues which need immediate attention may prevent you from being able to drive your vehicle away until it’s repaired. This is because it’s not deemed safe for you or other road users. Once the repairs have been made, and your vehicle has passed its MOT test, you’ll be able to drive away with peace of mind that your vehicle is safe.

Minor or advisory problems can be addressed at your convenience, and we can work with you to get these repairs sorted at a time that works for you.

Will my car still need a service?

Keep in mind that an MOT test is not a substitute for a service because it doesn’t cover all the same checks or include things like top-ups, air filter replacement and recommended manufacturer service interval work. We would recommend that you book your vehicle in for a service at the same time as an MOT. That way we can alert you to any issues that might arise before the MOT test is performed, so you can get them sorted and save a possible re-test. Often this will save time and be more cost-effective.
